mit Interviews von Jon Anderson und Bill Bruford

Twenty-four of the world’s most renowned musicians share incredibly candid, in-depth thoughts on the joy and pain of the creative process, their careers and aspirations, conflicts and collaborations, and the realities of today’s music business in Innerviews: Music Without Borders, the first book by Anil Prasad, published by Abstract Logix. The book is now shipping.

Artists featured in the book include some of the greatest names in jazz, rock, world music, hip-hop, and electronica: Jon Anderson, Björk, Bill Bruford, Martin Carthy, Stanley Clarke, Chuck D, Ani DiFranco, Béla Fleck, Michael Hedges, Jonas Hellborg, Zakir Hussain, Leo Kottke, Bill Laswell, John McLaughlin, Noa, David Sylvian, Tangerine Dream, David Torn, Ralph Towner, McCoy Tyner, Eberhard Weber, Chris Whitley, Victor Wooten, and Joe Zawinul. Wooten contributes a foreword to the book.

Some of the evocative topics explored include:

• Björk on the chaos of her creative process
• Stanley Clarke on saying no to Miles Davis
• Chuck D on what’s wrong with hip-hop today
• Ani DiFranco on propelling democracy through music
• Béla Fleck on exploring the banjo's African roots
• Leo Kottke on the guitar as a spiritual connection
• Bill Laswell on the drama of producing difficult artists
• John McLaughlin on defying expectations and turning the tables on the jazz police
• McCoy Tyner on the deification of John Coltrane
• Tangerine Dream on how electronic music can and should transcend technology
• David Torn on being the world's most sampled musician after James Brown
• Joe Zawinul on inventing the original hip-hop beat

Prasad established Innerviews (http://www.innerviews.org), the Internet’s first and longest-running music magazine, in 1994. He is celebrated for his special ability to get his subjects to confide and reflect in ways they rarely do with other interviewers.

Some of the topics Jon Anderson discusses:
- His creative process in detail
- How he directed band members in Yes from a musical perspective, despite his lack of music theory
- Channelling philosophical and spiritual perspectives into music
- Yes' group dynamics during its classic 1971-1974 era
- How friction served as as creative catalyst for the band
- His philosophy as a bandleader
- Contrasting the influences of Steve Howe, Trevor Rabin and Peter Banks on Yes' sound
- His transition into the world of one-man shows
- Why he feels his best work is still ahead of him
- A major revelation he had when he finished Close to the Edge

Some of the topics Bill Bruford discusses:
- The importance of storytelling in music
- Earthworks many musical transitions over its career
- Working with Ralph Towner and Eddie Gomez
- How running a band and label affect creativity
- His evolution as a drummer
- The difficulties of playing jazz for progressive rock audiences
- The impact of bootlegging
- Why musicians should only be able to release one CD every three years
- His road to retirement (a different take than in his book)

Zum Inhalt kann ich nichts sagen. Aber man muss sich das Buch nicht kaufen, es ist als PDF zu bekommen und auf dem heimischen PC zu speichern.
