LAUT.DE-BIOGRAFIE

"The Last Waltz" findet am 25.

Urmitglied Levon Helm.

The Weight

Levon Helm — vocals, drums
Rick Danko — vocals, bass
Garth Hudson — piano
Richard Manuel — Lowrey organ, backing vocal

I pulled into Nazareth, was feelin' about half past dead
I just need some place where I can lay my head
"Hey, mister, can you tell me where a man might find a bed?"
He just grinned and shook my hand, "no" was all he said

Take a load off Fanny
Take a load for free
Take a load off Fanny
And (and) (and) you put the load right on me
(You put the load right on me)

I picked up my bag, I went lookin' for a place to hide
When I saw Carmen and the Devil walkin' side by side
I said, "Hey, Carmen, come on let's go downtown"
She said, "I gotta go but my friend can stick around"

Take a load off Fanny
Take a load for free
Take a load off Fanny
And (and) (and) you put the load right on me
(You put the load right on me)

Go down, Miss Moses, there's nothin' you can say
It's just ol' Luke and Luke's waitin' on the Judgment Day
"Well, Luke, my friend, what about young Anna Lee?"
He said, "Do me a favor, son, won'tcha stay and keep Anna Lee company?"

Take a load off Fanny
Take a load for free
Take a load off Fanny
And (and) (and) you put the load right on me
(You put the load right on me)

Crazy Chester followed me and he caught me in the fog
He said, "I will fix your rack if you'll take Jack, my dog"
I said, "Wait a minute, Chester, you know I'm a peaceful man"
He said, "That's okay, boy, won't you feed him when you can"

Yeah, take a load off Fanny
Take a load for free
Take a load off Fanny
And (and) (and) you put the load right on me
(You put the load right on me)

Catch a cannon ball now to take me down the line
My bag is sinkin' low and I do believe it's time
To get back to Miss Fanny, you know she's the only one
Who sent me here with her regards for everyone

Take a load off Fanny
Take a load for free
Take a load off Fanny
And (and) (and) you put the load right on me
(You put the load right on me)

The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down
Writer: Robbie Robertson

Released: September 22, 1969
Personnel on The Band version:
Rick Danko – Bass guitar, backing vocals
Levon Helm – Lead vocals, drums
Garth Hudson – Melodica, slide trumpet
Richard Manuel – Piano, backing vocals
Robbie Robertson – Acoustic guitar

Virgil Kane is the name
And I served on the Danville train
'Till Stoneman's cavalry came
And tore up the tracks again

In the winter of '65
We were hungry, just barely alive
By May the 10th, Richmond had fell
It's a time I remember, oh so well

The night they drove old Dixie down
And the bells were ringing
The night they drove old Dixie down
And the people were singing
They went, "Na, na, la, na, na, la"

Back with my wife in Tennessee
When one day she called to me
"Virgil, quick, come see,
There goes Robert E. Lee!"

Now, I don't mind chopping wood
And I don't care if the money's no good
You take what you need
And you leave the rest
But they should never
Have taken the very best

The night they drove old Dixie down
And the bells were ringing
The night they drove old Dixie down
And all the people were singing
They went, "Na, na, la, na, na, la"

Like my father before me
I will work the land
And like my brother above me
Who took a rebel stand

He was just 18, proud and brave
But a Yankee laid him in his grave
I swear by the mud below my feet
You can't raise a Kane back up
When he's in defeat

The night they drove old Dixie down
And the bells were ringing
The night they drove old Dixie down
And all the people were singing
They went, "Na, na, la, na, na, la"

The night they drove old Dixie down
And all the bells were ringing
The night they drove old Dixie down
And the people were singing
They went, "Na, na, la, na, na, la"

The Band To Release Live at the Academy of Music 1971 Comprehensive Box Set
Before Tom Cruise ever donned leather pants and a bandana, Rock of Ages was a core 1972 double LP in the canon of a certain Band. First expanded with ten additional tracks in 2001, Capitol and Universal Records are upping the re-release ante, producing Live at the Academy of Music 1971, an uncut collection of The Band’s New Year’s Eve concerts from which highlights were drawn for Rock of Ages. Slated for September 17, it will feature four CDs, one DVD, one book plus original essays and liner notes.

And while the perks and goodies included may read like any other special edition – unreleased tracks, live cuts, 5.1 video - Live at the Academy Of Music 1971 so precisely captures a moment in The Band’s career. When guitarist and main songwriter Robbie Robertson performed at the Eric Clapton Crossroads concert, he performed “I Shall Be Released” in memory of late bandmates Levon Helm, Rick Danko and Richard Manuel. (Garth Hudson is still around and making music, recently performing with Wilco at their Americanarama stop in Sarasota Springs.) Robertson has been closely involved in the production of Live at the Academy of Music 1971, an essay of his is included in full, and described hearing those tracks again – “my Bandmates at the top of their game” – as deeply moving and powerful.

Yet the collection offers reflection from those not quite in the eye of the storm as well, in the form of the 48-page hardcover accompaniment book. In addition to unseen photos, the book includes the original Rolling Stone album review from co-founder Ralph J. Gleason as well as contributions from Mumford & Sons and Jim James.

As for the music, the set is nothing less than comprehensive: The first two discs feature every song played during the four concerts and the “New Year’s Eve soundboard mix” on discs three and four are uncut, unedited and straight from the masters.

13. Down In The Flood (The Band with Bob Dylan) (Friday, December 31)
14. When I Paint My Masterpiece (The Band with Bob Dylan) (Friday, December 31)
15. Don’t Ya Tell Henry (The Band with Bob Dylan) (Friday, December 31)

Sehr interessant.
"Sign Language".

No Reason to Cry is the fourth solo studio album by Eric Clapton, released in 1976.

The album was recorded at The Band's Shangri-la Studios in March 1976, and included
involvement from all five members; Rick Danko shared vocals with Clapton on "All Our Past
Times," which he co-wrote with Clapton. The album also includes a duet with Bob Dylan on
his otherwise unreleased song "Sign Language." The booklet in Bob Dylan's box set The Bootleg
Series Volumes 1–3 (Rare & Unreleased) 1961–1991 describes his involvement in this album.
Dylan dropped by and was just hanging out, living in a tent at the bottom of the garden.
He would sneak into the studio to see what was going on. Dylan offered his new, unrecorded
song "Seven Days" to Clapton. Clapton passed on it, but Ron Wood took him up on the offer
and released it on his third solo album Gimme Some Neck.[3]

The song "Innocent Times" is sung by Marcy Levy, who also shared vocals with Clapton on
"Hungry."[4] Female vocals are also on many of the other songs. Yvonne Elliman, who is
thanked on the back cover, sang on some of the songs too.[5]

No Reason to Cry was released in CD format on October 25, 1990.

"The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" hörte Jung-Teemeister zuerst in der Fassung

Rest in Peace!
